Subject: The most mysterious variant - 8x0

Message:Game stats shows 8x0 but cumulative stats don't. Scores also shows it with a total of 5 people on the All time streak list (all with 1 win). It is not a selectable option in Play but you can run 8x0 via custom.

Message:I think there was a discussion thread about this a very long time ago. As I recall it had something to do with a java applet that people were manipulating to get the games to load. And no, I don't even know what that means, just remember something to that effect.

Message:Wow, don't know what I was remembering, I had no idea it was this easy to get to those games. So who is BCFC? I'm not making the connection here.

Message:This was before my time, but wasn't Bristol.City.Football.Club sort of known to be a bot, that somehow hacked into the database and/or game somehow, and won very difficult games at an inhuman skill level and time? And maybe even deals that are no longer available?
Look at all-time lists for 6x4, for just one example. I'm sure others here longer than I can address this better. The 'connection' I was trying to (humorously) make, was that anyone who would say that their favorite is 4x0 could only be a bot

Message:This is a little off topic, but it does involve the manipulation of this site.
Several years ago when I first started playing my nick was mycatmax. My cat Max would lay next to me on the couch while I played. Back then, I was plugged in, not wi-fi. I had a pretty good streak going in 8x4 (350 or so) when on one game I made such a bonehead play it made a sure loser of the game. I bitched at myself so loud, it scared Max who jumped and in the process pulled the plug from my laptop disconnecting me from the Internet. When I restarted, to my amazement, the game reset to before my bonehead play.
I will be honest and admit that it took me awhile before I decided the right thing to do was make the bonehead play again and lose the game.
I wonder how many other people this has happened to.
I also wonder how many streaks have continued because of this delay in the site's recording your moves.

Message:I have seen others tell of this scenario, but I certainly haven't witnessed any occurrence of it. Maybe due to my archaic set-up....
This situation (but without the cat) was discussed some time ago, but maybe some of Denny's changes make that no longer possible; I don't know...

Message:That used to be a common thing to do if you screwed something up, you could close the browser quickly and hope to salvage an earlier position. Denny changed it so it always saves on close, but you're right you might still get lucky if you disconnected from the internet instead.

Message:Wouldn't you say 7x1 is equally mysterious? Or does the zero automatically confer mystery because it sounds kinda like Zorro?
h.

Message:When you wait longer than 15 minutes (or whatever the timeout is) to make your next move, you can play for about 10 seconds before you get a message 'lost connection' and the game is reset as you didn't play the last 10 seconds.
It's rather a nuisance than a possible leak in the system.
