is it me (my connection ?) or it's difficult to catch the server ?
I have trouble for about 2 weeks now, I start a game, finish it and it tells network issue, go back to start
I ran a infinite ping on freecell.net, and sometimes I have a "freecell.net can't be reached" where I can stream video, music at the same time... when I got the issue, I switch to whatever other site and it works fine
is there a fine tool to confirm my network continuity (even outside freecell.net) ?

and when it happens, Hop's site (https://hoppi.neocities.org/freecell/competition/comps) also displays no result (the page is there but without any score table), that's why I'm not convinced it's 100% my faulty connection
as it's random and relatively short, it's difficult to test on the smartphone

To me it sounds like there is something wrong on your end. Both of them being unreachable very unlikely.

That's me done for the day. Got to my target of 100 (not out) in 9x3 and a new daily best of 74.

Hardest game was 9x3 3563-10 which took a very anxious 11:28 and I was sure it would be 20% at best. Result - 13/13. It's like that sometimes!

What I meant was your ssc page displays the menu, the schedule, the "please wait" and it stays like this. Do you cache the data by an independant process ?

No. Maybe I misunderstood you. You may be right. It may be because freecell.net is not reachable for you.

But it still may be a problem on your end. If there is not anyone with a similar problem.

I continue to have problems as well (as I've reported sporadically, including a few weeks ago), but they are *very* irregular and fairly rare. But had one today. Came very close to finishing a tough game - then had to start all over again.

Exactly the same happened to me. Just as I was getting on top of a tough game it disconnected and I had to remember how I got there - luckily it worked out. It ended up being a five minute something game.

I've been getting this message several times per day this week:

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.
We can’t connect to the server at www.freecell.net.

Usually "Retry" works in less than a minute. Occasionally it takes 2-3 minutes.
I've been ignoring it, even tho it's rather irritating.

I'm using Firefox.

So feel free to surpass, yall are so close to lead & I’ll be playing more later prob since these are fun to streak. Very impressed with your streak here, Hop! And your all time score, Brew!

All of you playing have great all times, actually.
Alas, my bursts tend to last only a few hours before careless sets in.

That was built on my race with jb-l. I lost my first streak around 2400 and he surpassed. Then I caught with him once again above 3000 and lost and he surpassed again. And this is the third one and still alive.

totally forgot how yum they are (only the 90s gave duds the love they deserve) but bought a few boxes recently and devoured em. Will prob get more today, I do so love good snacks (they should rlly send me a check for being their spokesperson on a site where I’m sure snacking is a rarely-discussed-tho-nonetheless -major consideration, ha)

Andβ€”from someone who can’t remember anyone ever even mentioning her positivity, much less appreciating it,β€”your appreciation of my positivity is positively appreciated. Thank you much, sir.  I admittedly don’t feel super positive many days lately, so t’anks.

Also congrats to you guys, Hop, X, D, and Brew! Some impressive playing there! Hope I get to see tmrs tourney.

Tell it to your boss. You are the assistant to TN, right?

If 9x3 can be called like that, do you have something else to call 9x4 which is (was?) jbl's favorite variant by the way?

Personally, I like the mix of difficult, click-fest, and non winnable variants, providing something for everyone.

I would call a variant "click-fest" if it can be played without much thinking. That means it should not take more than two seconds to do the next click (maybe less). TN plays this variant and his average time is close to four minutes. it should take about 50 clicks to win a 9x3 game on average.

So IMHO someone who calls this variant "click-fest" should be able to win them in about 100 seconds on average.

I don't think any 12 or even 13 sum variant can be called a clickfest.  That attitude is a sure way to loserville.

"Tell it to your boss."?  Really (again)?

I was merely 'splaining to the questioner why some aren't interested in playing this variant in the SSC. It was in no way a negative reflection on the variant.  No need to go all snark.

We had this discussion years ago, and there was a difference of opinion on the definition then, as well.  Obviously there's some subjectivity.  To me - and quite likely to TN, too - a "clickfest" is a variant, *within the SSC or WWC*, that's gonna take a large number of hours to be competitive in.  I suspect TN would say that he doesn't have 6-8-10-12 hours to try and run up a score.  A clickfest is simply a variant that's easy enough to just keep going and going - provided one exercises reasonable care.  IT HAS **NOTHING** to do with speed, at least in my parlance.  I'm forever stymied with how some here are hung up on speed.  In tournaments, sure; that's the 'deal'/point.  But just regular play?  Nope.  Too much multitasking going on.  Continually baffles me, and I'm quite sure TN has no idea what his average time on any variant is, other than the general trends of easy ---> hard.

My memory is that the working definition of a clickfest, for most, came to mean what I just laid out, way back when.  That was part of the discussion of what variants to include, and how to rotate them.  Feel free to go back and examine that process, but I can almost beyond a shadow of a doubt that those decisions had NOTHING to with time per game.

kenwa's viewpoint is exactly why we ended up with the mix we did:  "something for everyone".  It's worked.  But the participants sure vary depending on where that easy/hard pendulum is.  And review my explanation to the question again.  That's the whole story.  No aspersions were being cast.  And it's an accurate answer.

I usually win a podium spot with daily scores in the range 100 to 150 for this variant, which is 3 to 5 hours with my average timing.

How much time do you spend for the variants you don't call "click-fest" if you play WWC or SSC and win a podium spot?

Permit me to try and respond for K o' C.............

Podium schmodium.  Gosh, it varies greatly - but it purely depends on what variant it is.  And it depends *much more* on what else I've got going on in real life - or even what ballgames or other sporting events may be going on.  Not to mention, once cheating became "a thing" that some here participate in.......the 'value' or importance of these competitions fell dramatically.  But to honestly try to answer your question - I truly have no clue - and it varies greatly.  On any given Saturday, the SSC is likely not in the top 10 of my concerns; certainly not top 5.

You certainly play much faster than I do.  So your 3-5 hours makes K of C's point - I have no desire (or likely no opportunity) to spend 6-8-X hours on it.

This variant once was a race between myself and jbl. Several times we surpassed each other in All Time score. Then jbl stuck in 4x8 and didn't want to quit that game and gave up playing freecell instead. If he had'nt done it, I would have been playing more because he would have pushed more. He hasn't lost any single game in this variant yet by the way.

So I play this one during the daily competitions only. All three have this variant in the mix so I play something like 3 days every 20 weeks.

Probably jbl is still reading the forums. He may want to signup and say something here.

The reason I said "it ought to be more popular" is that there are more than a few players here at freecell.net who struggle to solve 90 percent at the standard game...why not just downsize to this variant and solve 95 percent like cake, no? Seems reasonable to me...rather similar games...enough toughies here and there...

9x3 is a fine variant.  And it's a good one for the SSC.  It should definitely be in the rotation.  It's just a huge investment of time.  Yes, TN has played it, and I'm sure he will continue to play it on occasion.  Heck, he may even play it again for the SSC sometime as conditions warrant - like snow on the ground or whatever.  Patti may also play it sometime as she recuperates from whatever challenges her health leads her into.

But I stand by my answer.  It was concise, accurate, and addressed the question to some unknown-yet-reasonable degree.  Without negativity.

The variants chosen are rated easy, medium, hard. Clickfests by nature are easy, 9x3 is classified medium. Now if you had presented your claim with documented evidence instead of a perceived conjecture, then maybe it could be taken without a whole shaker of salt.
