Message:Altho I didn't use the name "andaronjim" this time around, I thought it was a pretty clear reference/homage to him (and now to you, I guess, unintentionally). The "nod nod, wink wink" aimed specifically at you was your big clue. That shows I really, really wasn't trying to goof on you. There was zero ill intent, and I'm surprised you "fell" for it - I honestly wasn't even going for that. It was just meant to be another comedy reprise.

@ cellmate......................
cellmate, any time I (or one of my 'friends') mention andaronjim, it is with disdain and as the subject of parody. MANY times over the past, oh, 5 years or so, I throw in another dig at him. He richly still deserves it, and that's a very, very, very hard distinction to earn. I think I suggested a week or two ago that you might want to look him up. I guess you didn't do that, but that's ok. I here quote TNmountainman, a friend of mine (as I think you know), from 2020, from a thread you actually started:
https://www.freecell.net/f/c/disctopic.html?code=14725&replies=82&start=0
"But now, my response.............
I thought it would have been pretty obvious that my comments referencing andaronjim's, uh, failings, was a parody - as such comments by me have been many times over the years since he made his multiple big splashes about the (obvious) greater difficulty of climate 5 vs. climate 6. Most here know I've railed on him repeatedly, and will continue to do so, as the degree of his denseness deserves that. It's one of those gifts that keeps on giving - at least imo. Am I a pot calling the kettle black? No; there are certain posters who have appeared here from time to time who have proudly earned that level of distinction."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And another time TNmountainman wrote, in 2021, in another thread:
"Beyond that.................as andaronjim taught us............we *know* climate 5 games are harder than climate 6s, but good try on that. :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sooooooo..........my (or one of my friend's) mentions of "andaronjim" is paying homage to his utter, quite unbelievable (literally) inability to grasp just what you're saying. Others here are probably tired of me doing this, but as I wrote above, "it's the gift that keeps on giving". VERY VERY hard to 'deserve' that, but he does.
I suggest again, if interested, you go back and find the genesis of his well-earned disdain.
[edit: I now see that Denny's search function is only going back to threads updated as recently as May, 2020. That's too bad - or maybe his search function now only returns a limited number of hits? (I don't think it used to be that way?)]
[And then..................]
@ cellmate......
On my quote I was substituting for andy. That wasn't a direct quote of his, but of TNmountainman's from the earlier thread.
It's obvious you never got to read his fiasco-esque complaints. The reason I keep bringing it up periodically I 'splained already - it read like a comedy routine, or several of them. It was like he was putting us on - over and over again - but he wasn't. They're gold. Denny should actually have permanent links to the best 2 or 3 of them. But amazingly...........at least a small number of regulars here actually met him in person, and found him, altho odd maybe, not as dense as he came across here.
[And then.................]
Now I HOPE you can see why I (or whoever) occasionally *whine* about a hard game not getting moved up to a harder climate level. It's ALWAYS a joke - a continuation of those threads. And yes, it's *still* funny. Funnier in real time maybe, but still funny.
[And then...............]
He would periodically show up with the same complaint - never the wiser. And anybody who's around now that was around then remembers him. How could one not?
And really.........the *quality* of his hardheaded-ness was such that it was memorable regardless of continuing frequency.

Message:This has NOTHING to do with the use of "climate" vs. "level". This is the second time you've somehow tried to conflate that into the discussion. It's ALL about one individual's utterly incomprehensible inability to pay attention, absorb, or learn about how any single game of say, level/climate 5 could be more difficult than some games of level/climate 6 - despite repeated, detailed exegesis by many fellow players. He was making brick walls seem like MENSA material. And now it's threatening to also become, unintentionally, about your inability to understand that. You've still got work to do tho, to reach his level.

Message:No, of course I'm not saying that. I can't even imagine how you would get that thought from my comments. The mere question mystifies me. I guess I *am* implying you're having a hard time understanding that my andaronjim-themed parodies are that and only that. You keep trying to 'correct' me because you're continuing to miss the point(s). It continues to "go over your head", so to speak. But do I think you're as hard-headed and dense as he was? No, you've got some skills and obvious grounding in logic - which is what makes this so baffling. You've still got a long way to go if you were wanting to challenge his obtuseness - and I don't think you'll continue on this path.

Message:smelly.................I think there's a degree of "you had to be there" involved here. Trying to distill a sequence of events that took place years ago, over months of time, into a few paragraphs is a hard ask, apparently, in this case. Successfully expressing and conveying the overwhelming degree of stupefaction and bewilderment that grew and evolved with repeated manifestations, each one more unbelievable than the last, may be too much for those who weren't witnesses at the time. Just a theory........

Message:Oh, I love you so much when you smack those cretins for their bullying! No one on this board is more proficient than you at relentlessly hounding your opponents with unprovoked insults, passive-aggressive comments, and thumps to their thick skulls.
The more dense among them might claim that you are just as guilty of bullying, but that is the natural result of their stupidity. They don't understand the subtle, yet beautiful, difference between bullying and, well, what you do. But I do, and I love you all the more for it.
You and I are kindred spirits. It reminds of my conversation with the Mother of Mayflies when I commented just how foolishly her kind behaved when swarming to bright lights. She had the gall to compare the behavior of my children to hers. Mayflies really are quite stupid.
Or when I was lamenting to Sovereign Fly about her truly disgusting offspring as they writhed and wriggled in rotting flesh. When I explained that MY larvae were the beautiful products of the cycle of life, she just rolled her compound eyes and flitted away.
Yes, outskirts, you and I are the true queens.

Message:The original set of deals, arbitrarily selected, and *completely* different from the Microsoft set, contained lots of unwinnables in most of the medium- to difficult- deals, just because that's the way the cards fell. At some point quite a few years ago, due to some significant clamoring of those who were (understandably) very frustrated at getting a very long streak in 11x1, only to hit one of the very few unwinnable games in the set, a 'movement' was undertaken to make up a subset of several of the regular variant deals. You'll see those listed as "Winnable Variants" in the list of variants.
There was MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH discussion about all that. You could do a search for "Winnables", and/or "Winnable" to read some of that. You might want to go to the bottom of those lists to get the chronological order - or maybe that's not necessary.
Opinions remain divided about them. It seems that most who play them like them a lot, but they only constitute ~5% of play on the site. The 'problem' with them is that it disrupts the LONG-standing database here, imo perhaps the most valuable aspect of the whole site (not counting the mere playing). If one had a streak of, say, 50 in 'regular' 8x3, but then somebody came along with a streak of 200 in W8x3 (or 8x3W), then there is a disparity between how to view those scores. There are dozens of pages of such discussions, which I'll leave to you to explore. Pretty interesting discussion.
So perhaps a better question would be..........................has the creation of a new set of deals, winnowing out the unwinnable ones, done more good than harm? Opinions strongly divided, based on different players' criteria for enjoying the site. This subject is absolutely one of the largest herein.

Message:What he ^^^ said. MUCH work was done by the great ElGuapo, along with MrFixit, and some others, to create the sets of winnables-only games. Regardless of what one thinks of that movement, they did truly yeoman work to accomplish that task.

I suppose my opinion, be it vastly ignorant- so pls no one get angry w me- is that it’d depend if they are truly unwinnable.
Like, if there is ABSOLUTELY, positively NO solution, at all…then it rlly wouldn’t seem to matter how skilled you are if you come across one, right? It’d be just luck if you got a streak of 50 on reg as opposed to 50 on winnable, bc itd mostly mean that you happened to play 50 that were winnable and you did well, yeah. But you could prob do just as well playing 50 on winnable. And the 51st that you hit, were it unwinnable, would say nothing to your skill. So why bother?
Oh but man, pls let me not kick up any dust or ruffle any feathers- I’m sure I’m discounting something.
I can def can see abt the disruption. Like if someone had streaked before the change, playing the riskier one, and they’d managed to win all the ones possible, and then all of a sudden there’s a winnable version where it’s much less risky and someone’s besting them, I can get that. Seems like the streaker on the former would be able to catch up pretty quick tho.
I for one am v happy that I can play 50 winnables without having to come across gibberish I have no hope of solving, so thanks to Mr. Fix It 👏 bc I’d prob have had an aneurysm by now.

Message:Yes, you're on the right track in understanding that part of the issue. It actually goes even deeper, but you're right - no point in dusting up any feathers or rustling up any dust. There is much, much background on this, should you choose to avail yourself of those discussions. Such is not necessary, however, for enjoyment of the site on your own terms. :)

Message:Haha thnx kumquat. I like how you speak, btw. In fact many posters I’ve seen on forum so far have very clever ways of talk. ..Or maybe that’s just bc we've all by now been sucked into the matrix, & somewhere Keanu is just feeding our brain tube a dictionary & rolling his eyes ha. Had to adjust my screen settings earlier bc my eyes hurt 🤦♀️
so I take it that comment abt the nicks wasn’t aimed at me? You must be rb as well? In any case, thnx for explanation re unwinnables. That helps soothe my pride a bit.

Message:Just to cut to the chase....................'cause I'm really not trying to be obfuscatory.........
TN is me, and me is TN. Once upon a long time ago, we had a very interesting poster who created a secondary nick "Peach-of-discord". She was quite intelligent and intriguing, but at the same time, occasionally disruptive and "rustled up some dust". I created this nick to combat that..................and to try and be a conciliatory voice in general - part of that to 'conciliate' claims with the actual truth. For quite a while, I was mostly (or so I think) successful in that endeavor. (Some might disagree, but methinks that would be due to the intervening disruptions, not to the original purpose.) So..........I still try to use this nick as a "truth teller" functionary, or reconciling things, as I can.
The smelly name is also TN, and TN is also smelly. That name that arose during one of the utterly riotously funny chat sessions which used to exist here. (Discontinued due to fears of offenses which could be created in the 'private' chat "rooms".) It was totally a 'joke' name arising from me hybridizing some comments of 3 or 4 females and myself. I now only use it for less-than-fully-serious playing, like when I'm multitasking or not fully able to pay attention.
So when smelly made an appearance just above, it was a mistake on my part. I wasn't trying to make it appear as tho two people were agreeing with each other, as joey apparently suspected. Altho posts here can be edited, they cannot be fully erased, so that's why I changed it to appear as it does.
I am not "rb" - who I'm guessing is "redberet"?

Message:Gotcha. Hm, so a bit of Tomato-of-Confusion there, maybe.
And Joey was looking out. Thanks Joey, I appreciate.
TN/ Kumquat/Fence/ et al.. thnx for explaining. & I believe you didn’t realize.
Yea tho, if u don’t mind, when u switch to diff user and are responding, if you’d be so kind as to say “I’m also..” or some abbreviated version of that, idk, just so I don’t wind up replying in various ways to one user &/or looking like an idiot by talking to several “different” users, but actually just one. I’d appreciate it. At least til I get to know site a bit better. No harm done tho, & thank you kindly for all the tips.
I didn’t realize so many have diff names on here but I can see that makes sense if u don’t want to ruin elo or streak. Just as long as this whole site isn’t just like 5 ppl switching back and forth from diff names, ha.
Ps-thnx red. Should’ve guessed yours as rb, duh.

Message:No offense, but don't think that'll be necessary. You'll catch on quick enough. And......I don't employ alternate nicks for any sort of 'evil'. Some might disagree, but my motives are pure and/or humorous. I don't try to 'stack' any lists or competitions, or anything like that. All who've been here any length of time at all have long been aware of my alternate nicks, so it's not like I'm trying to fool anybody.
