While doing the above exercise earlier, I had a "eureka moment". In retrospect, perhaps it should have been obvious. Hop's focus is on the big picture - cumulative points across all variants - ALL the time, or mostly so, when doing these compilations. Nothing wrong with that; in fact, there's a lot *right* about that. It's a great work. But............for those of us not interested in clickfests, who have no interest in doing a 11x2, or 9x4, or whatever........................that (overall) chase is completely pointless (pun intended). We're only interested in this day's variant, and whether we might be able to improve, among other things. Will BrownsRedSox throw up another 63? It's just a narrow focus, at least for that day. It's a clear case of me not *wanting* to see the forest for the trees (for the moment), and Hop not wanting to focus on the trees, but rather the forest.

So.....................I earlier asked for some more input on this, and none was forthcoming. Unless there are others out there who like to see this 'simplified' look at the previous days' scores, I guess I'll reluctantly not clutter up the board with it. Hop didn't seem to appreciate it. I don't see why both can't be displayed, but I'm getting no support in that view. ☮

I have a feeling that you do not seem to have realized that the first post shows cumulative stats for this variant only. There's no clickfests' data in it.

Yes, actually I did notice that, and it's an improvement (for my purposes), but a) there's no explanation for what "points" means. (I'm sure that's on your page(s), but for those of us who can't easily find our way around there, it's another step or four to interpret that. Formula 1 scoring, I suppose, but no indication for what period of time it represents); and b) more to my point, there's no indication of what happened last time, or any previous recent times.
There are clearly some here who can easily fully engage and interact with your site, but I'm a more casual player with less interest in absorbing the intricacies and nuances of your pages. They're certainly wonderfully built, but for me it's almost akin to showing me under the hood of a Ferrari when I only want to know how the carburetor works.

Because so much of your site is devoted to grand totals, running totals, etc. - which include clickfests. And yes, I know the info is there, but again, just not ordered in a way that seems 'natural' to me. That said.............I did just now go to the info site for the first time in a while, and I see some additions, including my comments. And so here's just one example of what kind of thing I'm talking about........
I just clicked on "7x5 Daily", which is ongoing. I expected to see the current standings for TODAY - which is indeed out there in about column 8 or so. The first column is "Streak", which I guess(?) coincides with Denny's arrangement, without checking. Now that I know where the "Daily" actually is, I can find it. But to me (and maybe this is *only* to me), all the other columns are 'noise' for today's purposes.

And while I'm whining...............again, why don't you provide a "back" button on your pages? I know there's a circuitous way to get back where one was, but it's not intuitive - at all. I suspect you have a good reason for that omission; I'm just curious to understand it. ALL this is just my fault, I admit, for not delving deeper, but seems like there should be that simplistic display, right there in front of everyone on the game thread, for easy reference.

You may ignore me from now on concerning these matters if you wish - but I'm TRULY trying to give constructive feedback - from the peons' perspective. Thank you for your patience with me.

[edit: Maybe I'm operating under a false assumption. I've been assuming that your site, like most websites, is one in which one is able to navigate internally to all its parts. Maybe yours is not like that. Is it possible to "go anywhere" on your site, or does one have to leave it and start afresh for certain things?]

TN, I tried using Hop's instructions, and it worked like a charm. If you can't see the hand pointing left, well, that's on you I'm afraid. It's actually pretty clever tbh the way the hand recognises which variant it is and only shows you that variant if you keep clicking. As for there being no back button, can't you just open a second tab with Hop's home page on it so that if you get lost you can use the second tab to start again? It's not really that difficult, is it(?)

Don't forget that this has all been provided by Hop for free, so whilst I understand that it might be a bit different to what you're used to on this site, it's still a lot more than we can reasonably expect.

I started to post a web site link, but I think his pages must not work like that. It just seemed like a generic link when I copied it.
And I'm admitting it's "on me". But truly, I'm not that dumb, even tho this particular situation sure makes it seem that way. Is it because his pages aren't really like a 'normal' web site? Am I the only one frustrated by not having a "back" button?

Ahhhh. Now we're getting somewhere. I didn't know one had to go to the link of the "original post". That's where my question about navigation comes in. Apparently one CAN NOT go anywhere within the site. One has to "back out" and start over. That helps big-time right there. And so now I can see the "Weeks" tab. Thanks cellmate. See how confusing this is without a road map?

[edit: further clarification -- after clicking on "Weeks", one must THEN additionally click on "Variants". You can't just click on "7x5", or at least I can't see that choice. (Intuitively, since "Weeks" and "Variants" are apparently 'equal' in the menu bar, I would have assumed the branches from that to be mutually exclusive. But apparently they can be "subs" of the other.)

Maintaining a "back button" means you have to have a history to restıre the previous state. On the other hand you can go to any state from any state by going further.

By convention, anything you see in blue means a link be it a variant/player/week/"number of medals". And some table columns can be sorted by clicking their headers (if a column is sortable).

there are many ways to get this info:

1 - in Weeks, you can navigate to whatever weeks number to find the variant played that week (e.g. 7x5)
From there, left and right hand icons allow to go to previous or next 7x5 occurrence
2 - (my first choice) in Schedule, find the variant in the list, click on it, a list of weeks is displayed, click on one, you are in Weeks (see above)
3 - in Variants, same as Schedule (the variants are not fully displayed but when you click on one close from ... , it allows to displayed the hidden ones)
you can click on numbers in the table, it will lead you to the Weeks
4 - in Players, you can click on one variant, it will lead you to Variants ( see above)
or you can click on one number in the table, it will lead you to the Weeks

hope it helps

anyway congrats Hop for a fifth gold medal in a row !

If you mean the old page by "old way", there is a link in the "info" tab (added after your comments). Or go to the home page (top right home icon) and select "WWCX weekly" listed under archived in Streaks.

I don't see how you can keep getting stuck in dead ends.

At the bare minimum, you can go to "Weeks" and select a week number from the menu above the table (and then may be another until you find the variant you are looking for), or use hand gestures to go to the next or previous week of the displayed variant.

Back to the competition, having played the Saturday Freakout starting late (losing to a really in form zippyquick) I jumped into the 7x5 fray after the Freakout was over and got a bunch of easy (according to Elo) deals. I was tempted to pause after passing Hop for the lead but then noticed I’d have to get to at least 53 wins to be cited in the Valley of the Kings. And, of course, my sports superstition is to not stop on an odd number while streaking. So, I targeted 54 hoping that would be enough of a lead, for Hop not to risk his exalted Elo rating in pursuit. I might have pushed beyond 54 but I bolloxed the 53rd game only to pull it back so that was a warning that it was time to stop. Alas, Hop woke up early and chased me down. As did another. At least third still gets you a medal 🏅.

@ Hop -- If taking screenshots wasn't so tedious, I'd post a series of them so you could see. I may think about that a bit.......
And it's really not an "obsession" about the back button. It's just that when one is on one of your pages, and there's no house to click on, no back button, and no hands in either direction, it's hard/impossible to find a way out of the maze.

As just one quick example, I clicked on "Daily results" for 7x5, for today, 6-2-23. This is literally ALL that's on the screen:

7x5 Daily
Combined results Weekly results Podiums Schedule Daily results

# Player Streak All Time Plays Wins Win% Average

2 redberet 5 71 2352 2126 90.39 5:56 9.37 4 36 38 9d 16h 3h 49m

There's no house, no back button, and no way (that I can see) to return to the page I was previously on. What if I wanted to see the "daily results" for 7x5 for 5-2-23? These are the ONLY choices, none of which would seem to be a way to get where I want to go - or even in the right direction:

Combined results Weekly results Podiums Schedule Daily results

"Daily results" keeps one where one is. No choices of dates.

This is the old page layout and you shouldn't see the last selection "Daily results" as there is no competition today. You need to refresh. shift-f5 or click reload when holding shift key down.

Is your browser up to date? Because some of the code may not work on an older version.

However..............I use Edge for freecell. In the past, it's just worked best for me. (And not surprisingly, nothing changed for freecell in Edge.) And I also did the Cntrl-F5 thing to no effect. This is my project to learn javascript, and try new things along the way and I do not care about supporting older browsers. Or even all the browsers. If it is good on FF then that's OK for me. And I try to download the latest version of FF when it is ready.

It doesn't seem like I can be more helpful for your case. Excuse me.

As for Elo stats:
"Highest ever ELO ratings
as of 30-Dec-2022 19:00:00"

Those are the latest. I update them monthly. And haven't done the 2030 January update yet. So that page should be OK.

Maybe one last thing you can do for me:
Click the link in the first post of this thread and see if you can read "Version: 13 (5-Feb-2023)" in info tab.

Yeah, I remember using FireFox way back in the day (2005) when few did...I'm glad I stayed with it; I'm not electronically suave enough to register a single legit complaint.

I wonder how Netscape dude Marc Andressen feels about that...I was friend to his brother Jeff back in Madison uni days--they say dude didn't communicate much back with Wisconsin except to give his parents fat checks.
