I was rolling right along...............but then decided I needed *some* sleep (but failed at that task), so I paused at 28. AND.............as SOOO often happens, Denny's dealer just despised that act of disengagement. So when I finally came back, with very limited time, I tried to squeeze in another 1 or 2, but failed. Yes, it was winnable, but a tough game. Olfactorily offensive. Congrats, Hop.

Hey, is score glitching for anyone? I lost a 7X4w a little while ago, so started playing again. Won about 5 in a row. (On the last game I played I had to get up for a while to help the neighbors cat, but came back and won it- thats why time is so long.) Anyway the last one I played the little box said my streak was at 2, but that's not correct. Also, I looked and it hadn't switched to 7x4 reg, it was still on 7x4w. Any idea why that happens? You have again (I think this is at least twice??) fallen victim to the long-standing, (apparently) intractable problem, known but uncorrected for many years, of "the system" changing from one flavor to the other. It most often happens changing from winnables to regular, but the opposite has occurred, too. Much cyberink has been spent on this forum discussing. It most often happens when there is a time lag in play (like timing out, which may have triggered the event for you in this case, looking at the timing of your games), change of machines, or other 'interruption', altho it can absolutely happen without those provocations as well.

You can find numerous other threads about this, but they're scattered. Denny is aware of the problem but hasn't been able to solve it. For a long time, he requested very specific steps so that he could reproduce the issue. He has been given same multiple times, so it must truly be a tough fix.

Thanks Kumquat. Yeah, it happens to me a lot that it changes from winnable to reg, but the game still said winnable is why I’m confused. The next game that auto came up was in winnable mode?

usually when it flips, the next game is reg. But it was still 7x4w.

oh well, I lost about 5 games later anyway but it always seems to happen to me late at night, creeping up on the cutoff time so it’s double annoying bc then I can’t remedy by starting again. Would’ve lost eventually anyway tho, as I said, so no big. Thanks for response tho :)

I've played 7 games. The winning percentages of said games are: 13.9%, 34.6%, 93.2%, 79.2%, 76.8%, 17.3%, and 18.7%. *Supposedly* climate 5 games. I think not!! I smell something rotten in freecell Land!!

[Update: *IMMEDIATELY* followed by 5 games with a winning percentage over 75%. We know that a lot of the time the squeaky wheel gets the grease...............but does it have to be so obvious??]

While that is an *excellent* point...........it's a question of degree, I guess. Yes, there's occasional snow in April, and the rare 20 C day in January - but those are clear outliers. Just like in weather "climate change", we have to adjust. The 'pattern' of (the very first) 4 games out of 7 being less than 35% won seems to indicate a possible change in THE "climate" - and whoever rates these games needs to move a bunch of them up to climate 7, 8, or whatever. Just seems fair. On the other hand.............as rbw--3 alludes........it could be that I'm just being persecuted based solely on my odeur 🦨, stinky as that concept thought is.

a) I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't doubt that would still count as taking a break. That game might be won, but then the dealer would take you to the woodshed on the next one.

b) Don't want to give out the vibe of playing offline and then 'entering' the win. And/or........it's well known that some here pause games to make their time/game less. That's always been a mystery to me, but 'they' still do it.

If so, won’t that come across tho?..it seems like that’d take a rlly long time out of their daily games. Like a few games an hour I mean, or something. But idk I could be wrong.

Anyway- mostly wanted to ask, I have opposite problem where if I get up to do something I often forget to pause and I’m assuming it decimates my game times. I’m definitely better abt it now-for prob month or so I oft pause- but for long time never bothered.

Do you happen to know, when avg time is calculated, is it length of time you usually play that variant, or does it tally mean by all my games of variant? If the former it prob never affected me much, is why I ask. But if the latter, then.. d’oh!

Pausing a game stops the running time of the game clock. I'm completely oblivious as to why that matters so much to some folks, but it does. We've had long discussions in the past about it. For tournaments..........sure - that's part of it (which is why I'd prefer they all be deadly, as I believe there should be a penalty for wrong "guesses").

As to stopping the clock to use cards, take notes, or whatever........yes, that's what 'the usual suspects' do. To me it's almost like compounding the deception - or more properly, *trying* to. It's *almost* funny, but actually more pathetic or pitiful, tbh ("truth be here" 😆). But at least they, or at least the two main usual suspects, admit the first part of it.

I'm virtually certain the average time is the average of all the games one plays of any particular variant. Others can correct me if'n I'm wrong on that point. But why worry? Denny quit paying out prize money looooong ago (yes(!), he used to!). And even then I don't think it was a time-dependent thing. Have fun. Grow flowers; treat bees; tame wild animals 🙂. The clock is not your enemy - except in tournaments, and in life in general. ⏳ -------> ⌛

These are so odd to streak, imo. When streaking most games other than zero, 1, or 2 variants, which I like to plot out from the start, I tend to just dive right in and play fast, which means often I’ll lose tricky ones if I don’t look ahead at start. Meaning I’ll just start making moves and that either works or it doesn’t. (Sometimes fast play helps with game flow, ..like I’ll feel out the board easier. But with tougher deals, it oft results in a loss.) With these, often the harder ones wind up working with that scheme, while some of the easier ones don’t always pan out. It’s usually the reverse.

This one didn’t seem at all difficult, nor did most of the other difficult rated ones I’ve played. One toughie I played earlier wound up getting difficult midway because I hadn’t set it up right, but was still able to win even tho had I taken the time to notice at start it would’ve spared me extra effort. That game was over 5 mins because I got up to feed my cat, but still would’ve taken less time than most. And yet, a simple one can make me spend over 5 mins often, and usually I’ll flub on those with my fast technique.
